James David Martens

March 31, 1952 — January 11, 2024

Inman

James David Martens, 71, passed away January 11, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.  He was born March 31, 1952, in McPherson, the son of John and Florence Pauls Martens.  He was a graduate of Inman High School.  He married Judy Rohrer in April 1982.  She passed away on January 13, 1988.  He married Lorra Green on November 18, 1989.  She survives.

James was a farmer all of his life. He could not stand being inside, unless it was to watch K-State, the Kansas City Chiefs, or NASCAR. He wanted to be outside at all times, especially if he could be birdwatching, but most importantly, away from paperwork!  He was a man of prayer, with the Gospel of Christ being the most important thing to him and for him to share.  He would stop and pray for anyone who needed it.  He was very devoted to his family, with being a grandpa his most important “job.”

He leaves behind his wife, Lorra, at the farm; his mother, Florence Martens, Inman; 2 children, Amanda (John) Medbery, Moundridge and Adam (Sammi) Martens, Inman; 2 granddaughters, Lily and Ruby Medbery; brother Jerry (Ramona) Martens, Inman; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, Judy.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place.  A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, February 3, 2024, at North Inman Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 AM at Zoar Mennonite Brethren Church, Inman.  The service will be live streamed on Inman Funeral Home’s Facebook Page.  In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions be made to Open Door Health Services, Samaritan’s Purse, Voice of the Martyrs, or Adventures in Truth, all in care of Inman Funeral Home.  To leave a condolence for the family, visit: www.inmanfh.com
