Stephen Lambert Jones

Stephen Lambert Jones, 81, passed away on October 4, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 28, 1943, in Hutchinson, to Chester and Edith Lambert Jones. A proud graduate of Hutchinson High School in 1962, Stephen dedicated over 35 years as a truck driver for Dillons stores before transitioning to drive school buses for Buhler School District, retiring in 2022. He also served as a reserve sheriff’s officer alongside his son for Reno County.

Stephen had a passion for gardening, traveling in his RV with his wife Sandi, and enjoying coffee with his fellow drivers and son at Spangles. He was an enthusiastic fan of Buhler and KU sports. Above all, he was a loving father and grandfather who cherished time spent with his family and his dogs.

On August 22, 1986, he married Sandra Allison in Hutchinson, who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Scott (Lisa) Jones of South Hutchinson, Sharlyn Jones of Wichita, Deedra Allison of Chevy Chase MD, Ragan (Andrew) Bonci of Mission, KS, and Brent (Angie) Fairchild of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Cody, Elizabeth, Morgan, Caitlin, Dresden, and Ellowyn; and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lyla Bell.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, October 17, at Westside Baptist Church, Hutchinson. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter or to the family, who wish to establish a student in need fund for Buhler Schools.
